Now that they are considered nuisance if I’m correct are they worth trapping one for the fur to tab this time of year or would it be best to wait for a winter coat. Thanks

They have to be actively causing damage (flooding private property, roads or plugging culverts), not just existing.

They have been doing damage for last 7 years since they taken up residence on my place along the river.

Right now, the fur is worthless, most likely have red butts which are undesirable in the fur industry. I don't believe the castors would be worth much either. If you can wait until late fall, then I would.

Thanks , i wasn’t looking to sell the fur I wanted to actually tan the fat bastard that’s been destroying my trees. Was all good until he now has my only big birch tree 3/4 way chewed through. I’ll wait until fall / winter for a better coat . Appreciate the replies

It specifically says that they must be causing flooding or blocking culverts. Beavers eat trees. You would need a special permit for tree damage. You would probably be given one if you have made attempts to protect your trees. Who knows, they may just give you one regardless now...
Beaver are late primers. They are the best January into February. Muskrat too. An incidental muskrat caught trapping beaver will have an almost totally white hide.

If you want a nice fur and don't mind more damage, wait until at least late Nov. If you don't mind a thinner fur, just for your own purposes, get em when you can.

Even if the fur and castors aren't any good the meat will still be okay.

I'd kill it now. It will take many more trees by late fall! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes they have and for the most part have taken home to my neighbors. He has had permits to kill them , a couple years at them and he couldn’t kill one. As of last couple years they have slowly moved more onto mine , maybe their numbers are just growing. But in all honesty it’s pry 10 good size trees I know of dropped not including my nice birch ready to fall. Could be more I try to stay out of my swamp and deer bedding area. I like them but really can’t have them dropping trees one could fall on a meth head I have sneaking through

Share a good recipe you have used please. I’d try it
Neighbor tried for years and couldn't get even one? Maybe has no idea how.
