ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- Four hunters from Allegan and Van Buren Counties are facing penalties for allegedly hunting waterfowl with the aid of bait.Acting on an anonymous tip, conservation officers from four counties investigated a report of corn being placed to hunt geese prior to the Sept. 1 early goose season opener, according to a news release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Conservation officers went to the reported location, a golf course in Allegan County's Cheshire Township, on Sept. 1 and verified the corn was at the location.
They then found five men taking eight geese over the baited area, according to the news release.
The southwest Michigan men, ages 44, 49, 54 and 73, and an Ontonagon County man were all issued citations for hunting with the aid of bait. One of the men was also cited for using toxic shot while waterfowl hunting and another one was cited for using a shotgun capable of firing more than three shotgun shells.
The suspects could face fines of $100 to $500 and restitution to the state of Michigan for each illegally taken goose, ranging from $100 to $500 per bird. All the men are awaiting arraignment on the charges.
People who want to report natural resources violations can call the DNR at 800-292-7800.

I hunt that part of the state now and again. I am wondering who it was that did that.

Doesn't sound like they were waterfowl hunters, sounds like a group of white trash, wife beater wearing billy bobs. I'm going to follow the story and see who they were.

Dumb azzed hill jacks. And on a public golf course to boot?! :cwm27: :16suspect

From what I have heard..they own the golf course and some were family and friends...also from what I hear ,,that this is not over by a long shot...rumor has it, that the DNR is going for blood on this one..I guess there is a long history there with neighbors and the golf course owners not getting along and now they(neighbors) are coming out of the wood work to give there 2 cents worth :yikes: on long list of infractions. So this is a hot topic of conversation over in west michigan(Allegan/Van buren) coffee and bait shops but you know how rumors are...so somewhere in between is the truth.

Wow, ages 44, 49, 54 and 73! Judging from the nature of the offenses this wasn't their first rodeo. That is a lot of years of poaching experience! Hope whatever they do they get these slobs out of the field for awhile!
