I fished around Algonac this evening and it took about 2.5 hours to get my 6 walleye. Had a few pop offs plus another dozen misses, but half of those misses were in a short 35 foot deep drift with the fish just playing like last night. All my hookups and landed fish came in 45+. Clarity was 8 ft last night, and about feet tonight. Basically the bite is back to what it was doing about 2.5 weeks ago before the bite got really good. Water temp has stalled out around 48-49 degrees for a handful of days now.

I haven't caught a fish on blue ice in weeks. That was my hot color last year, but not this year. There were lots of boats out last night with packs quickly forming and then disbanding. That usually means it's slow for most people.

Funny you mention that, I did notice the packs here and there, I tend not to follow the packs too much unless I see nets, and wasn't really seeing that. Couple stops I was pretty much alone. I've noticed this watching in front of my house as well boats show up, breeds more boats, but no nets in the water. I keep my hunting binocs on the deck, haha.

Speaking of colors, and this is another general opinion question for anyone....do people just change the lure color, or do you change jig head with it? I've done both myself, sometimes just a new color fin-s and sometimes the jig as well.

I keep 6 or 7 rods rigged up with different color plastics so I don't have to waste time swapping out baits. And they all use the same jig head which doesn't seem to keep the fish from biting.

Probably helps generate traffic and screw up the fishing, but I catch enough either way.
I knew NOTHING about jigging when I started in 2013. Hard to believe its been nine years already! I learned enough to be dangerous with information from members on this site helping and putting me on fish!
I figure, the least I can do is try and pay it forward just a bit.

Haha! Perfect, I'll use this as leverage on the wife for more equipment!

I also want to look for a new boat. I have an old Meyer with a nice 15hp merc 4-stroke (2019). But the boat really limits me in getting out. It's a small shallow v, so I really need to watch wind and weather conditions. Back trolling is tough in rough conditions, take a bit of warwe over the stern. Not a exactly a lot of room for gear. I'm also limited on moving around as shes not the quickest thing. Here's a pic from last year on my little hoist.

I didn't start fishing here until 2018 and had one jigging rod. Since then, I've picked up more gear when I found things on great sales or even picked up some stuff used for dirt cheap. I'm in about $60 on average for each rod/reel combo for some decent equipment, but definitely not the high end stuff. Paying full retail, most combos would be around $150.

But i think your boat is more in need of an upgrade than your rods & reels. I started out in a 16 foot tiller with a 25 hp that felt safe to jig in during most wind conditions out there, but sometimes going up to the bow to put down the trolling motor in rough water was a bit scary. Now I don't have that issue in my 20 footer where I've never not felt safe on the river, but sometimes the waves are bouncing the boat around so much that it's just unproductive to try to jig or even pull harnesses.

Your boat looks the 1st boat I ever owned. It was a 14ft meyer with a 6hp kiekhaefer merc.
I'm on boat number 4 now. 16ft polarkraft with a 40hp merc.
I could use a little bigger one for sure. I get nervous almost every time I'm on the SCR. But its not the wind and waves that scare me. It's the wake from those big boats.
I like to fish the SNI where the channels run out into the lake. The big boats always come very close to me, which I suppose is to be expected when I'm in the channel. Still some of them come really close. I have to be on my guard.

😂...yeah, I hear Beardsleys is the place to be! And YES, big boat wakes scare the hell out of me! See these 40 footers not even on plane pushing a 5 foot wake, lol. Probably finish the year out and look for something else. Thing is we have a 24ft weekender that would love to sell and get a really nice fishing boat we can use for weekend outings, can't get the wife to go for that though.

Speaking of which got that boat in now too. If anyone sees this while drifting the north channel, give a shout. I'm usually out there.

Algonac was packed this morning only a few spots left when I parked around 7 . Most guys were in the russel island area and a few up by the state park I didn’t see many nets today but I also didn’t fish in the packs either . It will probably be less traffic after the marine city ramp opens back up . Good luck this weekend I’m out till Monday

Doesn't think it has to do with anything temp or any of the above. I'd say location right now is TOP of the priority... As you will see when someone post later....

It probably has more to do with those locations being where resident fish tend to hold year round if I had to take a guess. But maybe it will help someone if they can't find fish right now to go back to where they were biting right before they started spawning.

Just got done cleaning my fish and one had a serious case of blue balls.
