I want to scope a Ruger 10/22 LR. I plan to use it to hunt coyotes in lower MI. I don't want to spend alot of bucks but I need it to be durable, waterproof, fogproof, etc. Obviously, I don't need alot of power since I will be shooting close range, 50 yards and in. A Ruger 10/22 fanatic recommended the Leupold Vari-X II 2x7. Says he's tried all and that it fits the gun the best and offers all that I need. He thinks I might be able to find a good used one for around $100-125. Does anyone want to offer up any thoughts pro or con on using .22LR for coyotes? I plan to use Aguila Super Max .22LR Hollow Points. They are supposed to be the fastest .22LR @ 1750 fps and 200 ft lbs of energy with a 30 grain lead bullet. It seems to me that a well placed shot should put a coyote down without a problem but I've read that they're tough buggers and can go a long way after they're hit. Maybe I should be thinking shotgun? Didn't want to tear up the pelt though.
