I have a small acreage south of Delton. I'm curious if there are any experienced habitat guys I could bounce questions off and/or take for a walk?

Love this topic. Lots to learn. Thanks for the good info in this forum!

Im not near Barry but for the fun of it how much property do u have? Any swamps, AG fields, hardwoods, brush etc? Is this a new property or have been hunting it for while?

Definitely not worth your drive from Hillsdale County. I have a 5 acre grass field on the back of my 11 acre parcel. It is bordered by neighboring hay field, rotational crop field and white pine thicket. I want to create some screens, food plot, apple trees, etc. Just a small set up that we could kill a couple doe out of. I think it would be fun to putter around with it and unsure how to set it up.

I really enjoy this forum. Lots of great info!

My inlaws live just down the road from Prairieville, off Norris road. They have 10 acres that basically border Lux Arbor. I did some habitat work years ago, but have not kept up on it. Matter of fact, I have not hunted there for a couple years. My wife and I bought 75 acres in Lake Co., so my efforts have been focused there.
Are deer currently using your property? Are they bedding on your place, or just passing through? How much pressure do your neighbors create? Sounds to me like you could easily "build" that 5 acre grass field in to something that will give you an opportunity.
You'll find there are a LOT of experienced individuals on this website...and on YouTube. Everyone has their idea of what works and what doesn't. I've found that it's not a black and white approach. Instead, find some common ground with all the methods and processes out there that fit YOUR property.

Small world...I'm on Osborne Road only a few miles from your in-laws. Next time you are headed down this way you can give me some ideas.

I'm trying to figure out how I want to plant some screens to make the deer feel more secure in using mine and hide my trip to a blind. They bed just off my property and currently only cross mine to feed elsewhere. I'd like to slow their trip by giving them a food plot along their way. Property to the south gets light pressure during gun season only. But ,since I will be walking around in the northwoods of Lake County with a 30-30 for the opener, I'm really only interested in shooting a couple late season doe on my place. Or your in-laws place???? lol
