I really have not thought to deeply about it but it would work. I just noticed your pattern with the biots along the side of the body with wire wrapping. I picked this up on another website a couple of years ago and have done quite well with it fishing.

Mostly partridge. (English and Hungarian)
That Orvis shop in RO has some decent ones. They have an entire bird in there. The price is 35 bucks, but there's 100's of usable feathers on it. I almost bought it, but got into the Brahma swap instead. 4 capes of different colors. ;)

Drip,

The hackle and wing are all done with one feather. After it's palmered I folded the remains and tied it back.

My best has been Lt. Dun hen. I think it works because it is more transparent, has more barbules than partridge thus it traps more air. Most insects, especially diving caddis, give off small air bubbles when emergin or diving from air trapped under the wings. Because the hen has more fibers it traps more air giving off more bubbles.

Don't discount the partridge or brahma. I did 3 of each for my spring boxes this year. I expect them to fish very similar but if last season is an indication the hen should do slightly better.

Lt. Dun hen meaning regular saddle hackle, Gunrod? Just trying to keep all the hackles straight....lol

I have hackles to tie dries but have really been intrigued by you guys as far as fishing wets. I fish dries and nymphs and know there's a whole world out there Im missing out on. :)

Yeah Ralf let me know the details of the next one of those hackle swaps. That's a great looking caddis.

I was made aware of it in this thread.

http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=975

John (Ridderbos3) posted it. It was a great way to obtain a variety without buying the entire cape. However it did take over a month to get them, since they were sent out to participants for plucking and then returned to Byard.

The quality of the hackle is something to see. The colors are unreal. I spent 120 and have enough for a 1000+ flies

I'll ask Byard how often the Co-op is held and get back with you guys

Lunk,
All of the grizzly and badger hackle is just awesome. The hackles are of different widths and will do anything from a 16 down to a 10.
I just ordered some of the chickabou for smaller wets. He didn't offer it the first time around, either that or I missed it.
