I decided to check the oil in the lower unit of my outboard. I have a container with a hose that screws onto the lower area where you pump in the oil. Some came out, so I screwed on the hose, pumped in oil until it came out the top,and patted myself on the back for a job well done...........WRONG. Next day oil is on the garage floor, uhoh, this is not good. After checking screws I determined the o ring was missing. Buy o rings and install........WRONG AGAIN. Oil leaked out again, brought the oil pump container out again and there it was. A gasket type sealer (not a o ring) was stuck to the o ring on the pump hose that screws into the lower oil fill area. If you have to check the oil in the lower unit, make sure that little gasket is on the screw when putting it back in. Checked this morning, no oil on floor. WHEW!
