I've got a Ruger #1, a Marlin Guide gun and a Marlin 1895, long barreled "cowboy gun"(new model). All three in 45-70, I guess I'm just a big fan of that caliber.
Anyway, years ago I reloaded but have'nt in some time. I'd like to know if anyone loads for this caliber in these particular guns and your favorite recipe. Can't seem to locate my reloading Manual right now, thought it was packed up with my press and dies. I'm looking to use 300gr. bullets and looking for some deer and Bear loads. I know the Ruger can be handloaded to some pretty ferocious pressures but can those same loads be used in the lever guns? Thanks in advance.

I prefer 400 gr bullets but its your choice.

In the Ruger #1 you may want to look into spire point bullets; they will help your long range ballistics but cannot be used in the tubular magazines on the leverguns. Also you can seat the bullet to much longer COAL that would not feed thru the Marlin action. The #1 gives you a lot of extra flexibility with the .45/70.
