I've inherited a mid-50's Montgomery Ward Sea King 5hp outboard and am in the process of overhauling it. It seems that the coil is shot and I'm having problems finding a replacement. The ones that I've found on the 'net seem to look different and I'd rather not buy a bunch of incorrect parts.

Does anyone know of a good place where I can go find such a part in the Muskegon/Grand Rapids area?

Bobs Outboards in Delton, little ways but he has all the old stuff for a motor of that year prolly! let me see if I can dig up his number!

I could not get parts for sea king when they were new .from Montgomery and ward some were made by Scott Atwater you could look at there parts also

My first recomendation would be Van's in Grand Rapids, they're on Alpine.

I did an overhaul on a '55 last year and they had every part I needed (basically everything) in stock accept for points and condesors. Their staff in extremely knowledgable.

I have a 7.5 Sea King as well which is a 9.9 chrysler.Wards needed a 7.5 so they marked 9.9 as 7.5 i guess.Anyway i rebuilt recoil last yr.You can get most anything from this guy at Discount Marine Parts LLC.P.O 98 4524 D Rd.Bark River,MI 49807 1 (906) 446-2180.Guys name is Sherman and is in the UP.Guy is great.He faxed us pics of recoil as we was having a few problems.And he also walked us threw it on the phone.Very good guy.If its old new and to be founded.This is the guy to call.Hope it helps,Mich
