Youth hunt question

    correct its like the old laws of 12yr for archery/small game and 14yr for gun season when i was growing up but now youth can hunt with gun on private only at any age

    That information is only for the mentored youth hunting program. The rules are different if the youth has already passed hunter safety.

    Yep! I was pleasantly surprised as well.
    Don't confuse the youth hunt with the Early Antlerless though. Early Antlerless is private land still.

    Correct.... My son has bear tag he will start hunting Sunday my question was does he have ability to shoot a antlered deer on the Sunday for the youth on public ground? Answer was yes... Anyone 14 years old or older

    I guess thats the problem we get different answers depending on who we call. When I asked for in writing they said to call the # which I did and when speaking to the DNR individual they gave me their interpretation of the hunters digest. For this hunt they should just word it a bit more clear.

    I've got it in writing! I have a copy of the 2017 Hunting Digest, which clearly states what age you have to be to deer hunt using a firearm on public land. I don't understand all of the confusion.

    Under 14 centerfire rifle only within city limits. 15-17 crossbow or atlatl. Youths aged 18-21 any weapon throughout September.

    They dropped it from 44 to 42? Stupid DNR - always changing the rules. I'm going to call in the morning to get a clarification.
