Looking to replace my 3 year old spinning rod with something decent for under $50. Guides are fractured and the burrs are now cutting my line. I always use braid, so the guides need to be somewhat resistant to fast wear. I used to had kastking sharky II on it. So, for under $50, what would you roll with and why? Thanks in advance for your recommendation.

I will comment on another brand Runcl Mecury. Less than $50 and are great rods for the money. You can think about it.

Not too sure which type of fish you're planing to target but the Shakespeare Micro Series are a great value IMO. They retail for like $20 and they have a range of lengths from 4'-6" to 7'-6". My nephew landed a really nice Steelhead using the 4 1/2 footer. If you just want a rod for trout and pan fish, these should do the trick. I've read some bad reviews for them but mine has been great.

Berkeley lightning rods. Have several of them from 5'6" to 7'. Great rods for the money.

My preference is to go go a store with multiple bands represented and test them out for suitability, not being guided by the prices or brand names alone as the determining factor.

Yep, Shakespeare Micro Lites have become my go to trout rods. I have landed multiple steelhead as well as a lot of large browns, pike, bass, etc on the 5 ft model. For $15 you can't beat them. I have one that has lasted probably 6 years. Love the fact that I can take them into small trout water with lots of hazards to rods and not worrying about breaking a expensive rod. I also have a 6 ft model rated 6-10lb, talk about fun flipping spinners and small cranks for steelhead! Just enough backbone to land the fish, but light enough to make it very entertaining.
