Funny Title for sure, I find myself scratching my head looking at the picture, which sure looks like a whitefish, the body shape and mouth, yet supposedly DNR tested it to confirm. I've caught upto 23" cisco that haven't weighed more than 4.5 lbs, yet this 21.8" fish was nearly 6.5lbs

I didn't see anything saying it was snagged.

See the title. I think the author is clueless as far as outdoor writing.

Tasty fish from what I here. If they are any thing like whitefish and menominee. Had a lake real close to where I use to live that had them, but they are a hard fish to target without electronics in the summer. Fishing for them in the winter at that particular lake could have been risky as they spawned on a 2' ft deep submerged island with 100' of water around it when the ice was only an 1" thick.

I have had them smoked. Not bad. Similar to smoked chubs if you have ever had them.

Ya, and if the fish was "snagged" and not hooked in the mouth when caught then it would not qualify as a world record because a fish must be legally caught.

Yeap, the author wrote a clueless headline.

Probably, but it is possible that Fleming is clever enough to know that putting the word "caught" in the headline would not get the attention that the word "snagged" has gotten.
I was going to send him an email and ask about the wording, but I do not see the address.

Typically the editor writes the headlines and the author writes the story. This is probably the case here because of the word “snagged” being used in the title but not in the story. If this is the case the blame is not being properly placed.

That's what I'm saying. The journalism these days is atrocious.
