Winter smallie flyfishing?

    According to the DNR, catch-and-release bass fishing is permitted all year (starting last year) - has anyone tried / had any luck throwing flies at river smallies in the winter? The Huron River in SE MI is closest to me. Thanks!

    They get pretty sluggish when the water is below 40 but..... dark bucktails in the deepest, slowest water you can find. They will travel a long way to find a deep pool so don't be surprised if your summer places are fishless.

    I have been fishing the flint for walleye and have been catching alot of them in deeper slow water . Blue/silver , black or orange have been good colors .
