Looks like a Canon L. What size? I own 2, one is a 70-300 AF, IS.
    Incredible cropping with them.
Haven’t seen a red headed woodpecker in years.

Lens is a 100-400 zoom. She just bought the camera and is adding lens. That bird was almost 50 yards from where she was shooting from. This picture was shot handheld and this lens is about max or just beyond for hand held.

    Very nice photo.

If I were her, I'd be careful while using that big lens for fear of a Detroit Lion or even a player from the opposition coming out of nowhere and bowling her over. I think those lenses attract them.

I've seen it happen many, many times. :D

Man on Mackinac Island last fall said that is a tough lens to hand hold. 70-300 is much lighter. I’m just happy to finally own a pair of em. Consumer ‘plastic’ component lenses drove me insane with the focus always moving. Just love the “L”’s. Heavy duty. Focus stays. Hope she enjoys it. Thanks for sharing.

That Canon 80D is nice. She should get together with turkeytamer41 (a member here). He has a 7D Mark II, and takes phenomenal wildlife pictures.
My old Panasonic FZ28 (a digital bridge camera) took some nice pics.

I have a FZ300 now. I still have all my old Canon 35mm film camera and lenses but, sure would love to afford a digital one. Your wife is going to have fun with that baby and looking forward to more pics.
