Bought a new farm this spring and having a hard time coming up with a suitable name. What do you call the place you hunt?

    Home is the farm
Place on lake is the cottage
The hunting prop is the cabin
A small parcel with camper is the lodge

And I hunt primarily public ground is the irony

I'd suggest naming it after a land mark or feature unique to the property. "Bent Pine" "Rocky Ridge" "Hill Top". Something like that.

    Enjoy!

    Lone Oak

Why? Because when we purchased the property there was only a single Red Oak on the entire property which had somehow been missed by the loggers:

We acquired another 40 with a camp on it called Camp 94

Why? The original owners purchased the 40 in 1960. They then purchased an old abandoned house down the road for $100, tore it down and then rebuilt it on their new 40. When they were taking the house apart they found paperwork inside a wall which divulged that the home had been built by a German family in 1894. Thus, the new camp became Camp 94.

A buddy of mine named his camp North Fork

Why? Because it was situated at the north fork of a creek. Another buddy and neighbor named his camp South Fork for the same reason.

Another buddy named his camp - Camp 33

Why? Because the camp and property is the largest landowner in Section 33 of that township.

We name a lot of the locations within our property like that - for obvious reasons....so everyone knows where we are talking about. Some are named because of unique features as you suggest...The Knob...Burnt Hill...Hillcrest...Little White Pine, etc. Others are named for stand locations...Deer View...Pepper's Post...Wide 8 Blind, etc.

I don't think you need to be in a big hurry to name it right away Gunfun. Certainly something appropriate will jump out at you when the time is right. Congrats on the new farm.

When we use to go to my cousins camp we called it " Camp Bag on" . Because everyone was relentless on each other. My camp really doesn't have a name yet. But need to come up with one.

We live on Pheasant Hollow Farm. Its 90- acres of mostly habitat but we also raise and sell garlic and lavender.

As time passes we've started to name some sites on the property, it takes a while for a name to stick for us.

Never Easy Ranch (TM.) is the name of my property.

We call it The Never Easy when talking about it.
