The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has confirmed the first cougar site in the lower peninsula in recent history. While there have been many rumored and off the record unofficial sightings, this picture taken by a Haslett man in the early hours of June 21 was confirmed today to be the real thing. If bears or wolves don't make the hair stand up on your back during an early morning trek to a tree stand.

They obviously never visit our barbershop with pins of sightings stuck in it like a porcupine's back side :)

I would MUCH rather take my chances in the field with cougars or wolves, as opposed to walking down any street in Detroit. My chances of being attacked by a wild animal are MUCH greater in Detroit, or any big city for that matter.

Are you talking about a new confirmed sighting or the one that was confirmed on June 29th? I am not sure why you think the dnr would be investigating barber shops for cougar sightings.

If you know of a cougar and can show some proof the DNR would like to know. If there is any evidence that they can follow up on they will.

So just because someone sticks a pin in a map that means the "cougar sighting" is the real deal? Rather than verifiable pics, tracks, or DNA you're saying all the DNR should need as proof is the word of a bunch of guys sitting around in a barber shop? If that was all it took the cougar population in Michigan would have to be estimated to be in the thousands.
