October 15? 2000. Cast net a pod of alewives got about a dozen. Got two man limit on coho. Several big browns. Couple Kings. And got completely spooled on the last bait. Love Frankfort. Epic evening.

First time I got spooled- was hilarious. We were screaming, laughing, falling down. Only had it happen with jack crevalle otherwise.

We didn’t. We used 3/4 oz. egg sinkers- barrel swivel- 3 foot leader.

When using bait like alewife or spawn I like to slide a 1 1/2 to 3 oz. pyramids sinker on main line tied to barrel swivel with probably 2 ft leader. Bigger sting hooks and 20 lb florocarbon leader. When salmon hit that rig you don’t want light finesse set up

Yeah, you flip your rod to the left, and lean on em hard. Then you flip to the right, and lean on em harder. And you just watch your line keep peeling off the reel and can't even slow a raging King down. And be ready to cut your line when it gets to the bottom. It is a blessing if you just have to re-spool, instead of having to buy a new rod, and reel. And you never forget the fight, when you've been spooled. ;)

    Great catch to op.

Only time I ever had a fish take me down to the spool was a 9-10 foot bull shark. Wondering if you're using 3000 or 3500 size reels? If so, might want to up size to 4000.

That’s awesome. Those little fish are insane. I got a few of those on 5 weight and light switch rods. I miss the salt. Lady fish on a three weight was sick!
