i have a weed cutter that i installed on my 3.5hp outboard
2 large razor blades glued to the lower unit with a ball of epoxy holding it secure - the blade tip extends over the small gap between the prop and the unit.

it has worked well, makes the prop semi weedless

i just bought a 6hp, and cannot find the kit for this anywhere on the internet

thought one of you might know where i can buy one?

or if anyone has better ideas, like a prop collar cutter or something like that?

no, thank you, i am not interested in a mud motor - i prefer peace and quiet, simplicity, room in the boat and light weight motors

and yes, i do own two OMC 3hp weedless motors from the 60s (twin-something was their name) - just needed a 6hp to reduce time getting out

ty in advance for any help

Light twin, speed twin and duck twin. I wonder why they did away with the weedless lower unit?

My boy and I are currently restoring a light twin for him to play around with.

I'd be interested if you happened to have a duck twin laying around.

And let's not forget the Yacht Twin.
Sorry, I don't know where to find an aftermarket line cutter.

Hi neighbor. How is the island? Try sharpening the propellor blades to a knife edge.

i got off the island when the freighters were getting stuck and daily concerns about the ferry
will be going back next week for a bit
it was f*ing cold for the repoener, but we got 22.
came back home and did not go outside for 4-5 days. i can imagine wht it was like on the island

your de-weeding idea struck me as 'duh!, i should have thought of that' haha
that, and maybe finding those razor blades, or concocting them on my own, should help next year
thank you very much for the hack!

I'll look you up when I'm back on the island after snowboard season. The beers are cold and the lies are outrageous.

Years ago, there was a product known as a "Weed Shark". It was a small piece of thin stainless steel, about 2" long and 1/2 to 3/4" wide. It was sharpened on three edges near one end. You glued it on the gear box of your outboard near where the gap existed between the prop hub and gear box.

I have made several from small pieces of flat stainless (such as a bottle/can opener). I have one on my 15 hp outboard.

When the prop loads with weeds, I shift it into reverse, and rev the engine. It throws the weeds forward against the weed shark and it cuts them off the prop.

ty very much for the tip. that is similar to the weed shark i have on my 3.5. but instead of a straight blade attached with epoxy, this one has 3m tape and some curvature. i think it will work, perhaps even better than the weed shark
