I did some creek hopping with 6 dekes and the trusty double gun. Managed 5. I would definitely say that the wood duck are on their way out of the southern part of the state. Fortunately, it looks like the migrating mallards are filling in nicely behind them.
Thanks. Don't get me wrong, I like easier hunting too, lol, especially now that I'm pushing 40. When I hunt these creek bottoms I toss the dekes into an old Alice pack and strap an inflatable inner tube for retrieval to the outside straps. I was trying to take a nice picture by the creek with my phone wedged into a tree and I was sinking down into the bottomless muck when the timer ran out.
Dude I took a innertube to the Ausable area for beaver pond jumping. We need to Hunt together one day. I love doing things no one else does or is willing to do. I got some awesome spots up there and you dangle a line for brookies while you hunt!
I’m laughing my insides out . Your picture reminds me of walking across a muck area of the marsh I hunted once and sank up to my knees . So I fabricated a set of those green plastic down spout extensions and a couple of wheelbarrow inter tubes to the bottom with straps Put in a little air and strapped then on. walked right across that semi dried muck.
Nice shoot for sure but I have noticed the opposite in mid Michigan lots of woodies still around and hardly any mallards moving in.
I would be down for it. All of the vacation time is spoken for this year but next year I'd love to make it up north again to chase some ducks. I know the guys on the upland forum get together for grouse camp a couple times a year. I'm really surprised the waterfowlers don't do more on M-S
That is pretty great idea. We saw and passed on a ton of woodies Tuesday because of the mallards flying everywhere. Guess I’m really lazy cuz I never stepped out of the blind. That’s the dogs job.
