Trap mouth diameter

    I was wondering what diameter to y'all have on your trap entrances? I've got a homemade trap that I've played with a bit, but I always have to wonder if some are sneaking back out.

    About 2 or 2.5 inches.A 2 inch trailer ball works pretty good as a sizing gauge.

    All my traps are 1.5-2” opening. 2” is a good size

    Caught and cooked my first one. I was pleasantly surprised of the taste. Can anyone tell me the species? I look forward to harvesting many more. IMG_20180506_151842878.jpg

    Agree. Hard to see below the water glare but the shape of the claws and tuberosities on the dorsal aspect of the pincer claws is worrisome. OP should probably send pic and location of trap to DNR for review.

    I would say it looks like a native to me.The swamp crayfish are a lot more spikey/bumpy looking.
