    Doc tailed pointer?

The history of the GSP is intriguing.
Germans enjoyed the large Spanish pointer and imported it for pointing game. Then they wanted versatility and crossed it with the bloodhound. The result of this crossing was a dog that pointed birds and rabbits and did trailing at night and they had what they wanted. The German pointer.
When the field trials reached popularity in America the Germans and Austrians were impressed with the dashing speed of American pointers.
They then started crossing with English/American pointers with great results with selective breeding they got a smaller, faster dog with endurance. The German Shorthaired Pointer.
This is a double cross 50% Spanish pointer, 25% fox hound,25% bloodhound.
    English/ American Pointer is
    (Spanish pointer × foxhound )
    The German pointer was
    (Spanish pointer × Bloodhound.)
    The German Shorthair Pointer is
    (German pointer × American/English pointer)
    Hence the double cross

    They are beautiful beyond words.!!
Especially after you dig, pick and brush out all the burrs followed by a bubble bath.Soft and silky and smell pleasant!!
Penny had some burrs from our outings and well Dixie had none.

GSP’s are the best. I know this because every GSP owner I’ve met told me so. :)

I’ve found many to be PIA’s. Their dogs are wonderful though.

Terry is talking about Rich Robertson....famed all age handler. Now handles GSP’s for the folks that bought his ranch out west if I understood his story in an interview with Bill Hilton on field trial central YouTube page.

Keith and Bobbi Richardson are diehard shorthair people, they host trials on their ranches in Idaho and Wyoming. Rich Robertson works for them and handles some of their dogs in trials as do other professional trainers.
