Wondering what you guys think is the best way to get this usable.
I know it's not ideal. I want to use it as a back up. Thanks

If collector value unmolested is a consideration, use it as is.
Otherwise , build up the barbs.

Yes to building up the barbs. It would be a nice backup spear

first, find out if that head is valuable if it is if so you may want to leave alone, if it isnt then does it have threads inside the pipe handle end? if not then a union could be welded on it then a length of 1/2" pipe could be screwed into it and weight added to the head end if needed.

I would just find a wood broom handle, make it fit, glue it and once dry pin it.
