2020-10-24_12-00-40_971.jpg 2020-10-24_12-02-45_411.jpg Been fishing the lower Detroit River for over 50 years and I never caught anything like the fish I hooked into On Friday. My brother and I were perch fishing near Grosse Ile and I pulled in a nice size fish with black blotches. It looked like a group, but obviously that wasn't possible. Although I always release any bass I inadvertently catch when perch fishing, I kept this one in case it was an invasive species or sick.

Got home and found similar fish on Google, basically the fish is a bass with 'melanosis'. Here's a link to a Missouri Natural Resources info page: https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/fishing/fish-diseases/melanosis-black-spot-blotchy-bass

Hope I never catch one again!

You can catch those all day long in the hot ponds.

It is common for bass to have black blotches, especially smallies, however, I have never seen one with that many.

My buddy an I have caught a LOT of smallies in Grand Lake (Presque Ilse Co.) that have black blotches. It's rare for us not to catch one with them.
