Good point. I lived in Fenton and worked in Romulus for a couple of years. The commute was brutal but I was young then and only fell asleep driving once or twice. I couldn't do that now for sure but it did work!

I commute as well because I prefer to live in the country. I work all over and my commute has been as many as 100 miles and as few as 45 depending on where my company places me any given year (I move around alot). I get that the commute isnt that bad. The big difference between my son and I is he drives an 04 s10 blazer that gets 15mpg and he wont be making anywhere near my wages. The gas cost at $3 a gallon doesn't justify commuting.

He has done the business case and commuting would be several hundred dollars a month more than a studio apartment in the neighborhood.

If he were to commute his grandparents own a place in st helen which is 20 miles closer than our home. He would probably stay there. That is an option he is considering. That will most likely be his short term solution if he doesn't have a plan in place. He starts this week.

He may be able to sublease near SVSU for the summer months. Lots of kids leave for the summer but hold a 12 month lease.

Delta or Northwoods is another option.

Look for a room to rent.

I bet a hundred a week would score a place

Our interns either use one of 2 local college dorms or a weekly hotel

He looked into svsu college dorms. They were incredibly expensive. I like the idea of subleasing another students place for the summer months. He is going to look into that.

A lot of the owners on VRBO and ABB own several places. While one place may not be available the entire time they may be willing to move him around a little and have some flexibility if he offers up some maintenance/lawn care etc in return.

He turns 21 in July. If he doesn't have a solution by then it might be an option!

Especially if this is some place he may end up wanting to work for he should look for the option that allows him to put the most effort in the work. I know when my daughter was interning at Cat there were interns from all the best engineering schools from throughout the country. Her boss put a lot of effort in to hiring her and even hired her husband. He said they picked mostly by work ethic and they hired the ones they had to chase off late every night and every weekend. Camping and such sounds neat and economical but it takes time that might be better applied to the job.

    Craigs List Saginaw
Plenty of good apartments and rooms available
    or call WNNCO rentals

We use AirBnB but this area really isn't a hot spot for it.
