Two banded birds?! Awesome hunts guys! While I was tramping around locally trying to find a duck to jump yesterday I was thinking it would be a great afternoon to be on the Flats.

It was a great hunt out there yesterday afternoon. Those birds worked nice and tight. The dog got a definite workout in the wind, waves, and mud. Not to mention all the birds he got to pick up. I put him in the truck once we got back to the launch and he was out and slept the entire way back to GR. I wish I would have gotten a picture of him with that banded mallard in his mouth. Even with all the mishaps, it was a highlight hunt for the 2017-2018 season!!!

Poor dog was huffing and puffing all the way back with that last goose.

With these last couple days of cold temps, are the fields locked up and if so, how thick is the ice out there?

Heard north end was pretty solid. One guy was attempting to break a path.

I can say first hand that Prior had ice along the woods. Busted ice in the corn with my thighs (should leave nice bruises). The back canal along the refuge on the north side was a 3/4" thick easy on the way in and refroze during the day. Made for an interesting trip out. The west wind kept most of the water open in front of the corn but that was about it. Even if the water stays open by the corn the east and west canals will be tough to bust tomorrow in my opinion.

1-5 was locked tight this morning but did see a guy walking across busting through back towards the launch around 9.

    Can't speak for anywhere else.

years ago i remember walking in from miller across the ice in the morning. was one small hole open before 4-5. i hunted it and shot my birds off a milk crate while on top of ice. started walking out couple hours later and the sun had weakened ice....was not fun....long walk breaking ice...easy walk on top of ice.
