Just picked up a used 14 foot aluminum boat, did some slight repair work, put in a plywood deck, and am looking to catch some fish. What are some good inland lakes in the SE Michigan area that are good for large and smallmouth this time of year? Thanks!

White Lake, W of Pontiac has some nice largemouth. And big pike. Not sure about smallies. I've heard of great catches from Lake Orion, but have not fished it myself. I've only fished Wolverine Lake a few times, going for pike, but caught a nice bass or 3, if memory serves.

Kent Lake has both, but a high fee for the Metroparks day pass if you don't have the annual sticker, which is probably also pretty pricey.

Is it safe to keep the fish from Ford lake yet?

If you can figure 'em out, union lake has some nice smallies. Hard to catch most days in my experience. Long lake right next door has a good population of smallies.
