The part of the ranch (Newaygo county portion with 3 CWD positive deer. Still has plenty of deer within the fence.

I drove by this yesterday and saw 40+ deer within the fence and easily in sight of the road... How long is it going to take to get this taken care of.. Until the deer get out.. This is infuriating to know that they have had months to depopulate this facility and have not made any significant progress...

Standard procedure has been to remove all cervids from any facility that has any level of infection from CWD. I still believe that this hasn't changed. If there has been a change to this protocol I am unaware of that change..

Any chance it was the other part of the ranch that had the positive deer and not the Newaygo portion ?
Agree, wherever the disease was that area should not have any live deer.

No, it was the Newaygo county part of the ranch that had the positives.. I can't think of any reason why they haven't moved forward with the removal.. The fence is old and deer have been known to escape more than a few times.. Seems like a huge risk to not be moving forward with this...

I was told the Department of Agriculture is dragging its feet because the Sanctuary is claiming they have 11 million dollars worth of deer, and the state has to pay for them if they are depopulated.

Perhaps the state should tell them that a diseased herd is worthless because it is..

What did the Sanctuary Ranch do that was outside of the guidance of the state? If they followed the rules, they should be compensated a fair market value of the animals if they are being forced to shut down

So what is the "fair market value" of a diseased herd? I'm betting that the value is not very high.. Try selling sick cattle with BSE in your herd.

FOIA will get your answers but they will delayed due to a covid19 executive order.

I think the state has s max vale per animal. Example $1,500 max per.

Not positive but believe I remember reading something like that in the past.

Why treat a ranch any different than the CWD Zone?
