Great bag! Thanks for sharing, I like success stories. What do you guys think the birds prefer in the bay in regard to water level, high like this year or the more normal levels?

Coming up there Monday, hope you don’t mind if we shoot 12 birds(shoot at).... Please and thank you

I'll just say, that was something I've never experienced before. Minutes before it hit, if you weren't prepared you could have been in a whole lot of trouble.

The Buffies, scoters and goldeneyes showed up Sunday. We did see some large flocks of bluebills heading SE leaving the Bay this morning.

We ended up with oldsquaws yesterday - had a group of 4 (hens) pile in while hunting in a marsh out of Sebewaing. We have had 3 different occasions where we have taken oldsquaws in what I would consider a near shore situation.

we have shot them on inland lakes in mid Michigan. They tend to wander during the migration.

For you Bay hunters..... Chasing perch out of Linwood currently..... Watching hundreds if not thousand birds flying around. Wish I had a layout rig today.

True. It just seems that this year they are showing up with more regularity.

I get oldsquaws and scoter on inland lakes occasionally. They usually are pretty dumb. I always imagine they haven’t seen a human and are like WTF is going on.

We have kept detailed hunting records going back 20-25 yrs. it is normal for us to see them the last week of October and first week of November.

Agreed. It is the encounters nearer shore and in the marsh that we are noting more frequently.

Thanks for heads up The Doob, some divers are down here at Erie, had 2 flocks of bluebills and redhead decoyed and we got a few. What a pretty sight is decoying divers.

Well, after 3 days of good shooting, it appears as though most of our birds left town on last nights NW wind. We are seeing very few birds in the open water off of Sebewaing.

Looks like they will be there for our southern brothers just in time for the weekend
