That sounds more like a normal late November report.

Not sure why the bigger fish didn't push in with the shad this year? Maybe they really like those herring in the outer, and it seems smelt #'s are getting better.

Ive seen it late like this before. Usually leads to a really great first ice bite fingers crossed.

Hoping first ice is in January and we can boat fish all of December! But having fish to catch in the river in December would be nice!! ;) ;)

I’d take some ice sooner than that! Last year was a big let down. And I’ve got a new rod to test out. It’s a walleye noodle that I built.

I hear ya. I personally would rather fish out of my boat...especially on the river. I'm fairly confident in not falling out of my boat and of being able to float in my suit. But still a little leary of the river ice. I'm still hopeful to be able to try the Bay at some point...but no ice transportation vehicle for me...and that seems like a must. Someday, I'll fall in with the right crowd and maybe someone will take me out there. I did ice fish the river once a couple years ago and caught a couple 13" fish. I'll definitely give it another shot if it gets good and safe this winter.

Keep up on the posts. If the river freezes I'll be on it often. If the bay freezes good, I'll take my van out! ;)

A lot more fish up river than I expected. Probably should have went to bay city and got closer to the source but I was ready for a change of scenery. Next week might be game time!

my brother in law went to river in bay city last night for a couple hours, he kept three lost one fishing from shore. he said all fish were hooked after dark. he was using husky jerk. i think we might take the boat out later today after hearing he finally caught some. hes been trying for weeks with nothing to show. good luck fellow fisherman.
