Has anyone connected their trolling motor directly to the battery terminals , without a circuit breaker?

My friend has a small Minn Kota 30 lb . thrust, that is 17 years old and has always been hooked up directly to the battery .

It's a matter of the level of risk you are willing to accept.
You can purchase a self-resseting 30 amp circuit breaker at any auto parts store for $5. A pretty cheap way to mitigate risk.

My battery is in one of those black boxes w/ lid. I drilled holes on opposite ends of the box and inserted a short bolt, nut on inside and out. Leave the bolt stick up(out) of the box 1/2" or so.

Inside run a 8 ga or so wire from terminals to the bolt.

Elect motor clamps van then be clamped to the bolts that stick out.
Get fancy and paint one red other black.
