Being aware of the distemper situation with raccoons in Ohio, today, about noon, I had a racoon below my birdfeeder. I live in Lake Orion. I took some really bad video. Only strange behavior was it kept "bobbing" its head up and down and, the fact that it out and about during daylight hours. Then crows finally chased it under my neighbor's deck? Is this something I should report? If yes, who?

I saw two in Ogemaw county last weekend, daytime hours, not really afraid and only walked away. Seemed like they couldn't run away. Seen at separate times about two hours apart.

So you are ready to spring into action this morning as you watch out the window while doing paperwork for your booze business ?

Their behavior is to some extent based on their habituation to humans. Back in law school I would see some walking down the sidewalks of Ann Arbor in the middle of the day. That said, the last couple decades they have also been strong vectors for rabies. Comport yourself accordingly.

Over the years i have occasionally seen spring coon out and about during daylight hours .They sometimes appear in really bad shape .A couple of them have shown no fear of me and they were dispatched at close range .I was mostly concerned about an encounter with my dogs when i wasn't outside .Coons fight a lot and spread disease .
