    Guys:

I am selling an item on an internet site. The buyer sez he is working on a tugboat for the next two weeks and can only pay with PayPal. I do not have, nor do I need a PayPal account.

Does this sound like a deal I should pursue or not? THKS.

I have bought a sold several items using PayPal. Probably one of the safer ways to buy/sell things over the internet.

Depending on the price and profit margin of your item(s) you might want to add the PayPal commission to the selling price...

I sell 1000's of items on Ebay every year, so I use Paypal frequently. My advice, NEVER accept Paypal for any high priced item unless you absolutely have to. Once that item ships there are a multitude of ways that you can end up without your money and without your item.

Anytime I hear an unusual excuse why a payment must be made a certain way it instantly makes be leery (Like I'm away working on boat). Your best bet would be to request a small deposit via Paypal and then have the buyer mail you a money order when he gets back (Then the most you can be out is $20.) If he really wants the item and isn't trying to scam you he shouldn't have a problem with it.

    ^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

Excellent Answer and exactly why I asked the question. Further emails with Tug Boat Guy didn't pass the smell test either. I quickly sold the either to another party.

I recently closed out my PayPal account because some one tried to hack it. AS above, if it smells funny, it probably is and you are best to cut off all contact with that person.

Pay pal is only garaunteed on ebay. If you are selling on Craigslist or any other site, it isn't garaunteed. Read the craigslist scams.

I will never use PayPal again. They are a ripoff company that has screwed over thousands of people. They should not even be allowed to do business in this country any more. Avoid Paypal unless you enjoy being ripped off.

I'm with you. Sold a 500$ item on ebay. 2 months later thr guy says the drscription wasnt described properly and paypal was immediately on his side. They withdrew the money from my personal savings account and gave it to him. Paypal told me i would have to file a civil suit with him in the his hometown, 700 miles away. AND i was not reinbirsed for ALL the processing fees from ebay or paypal. They are crooks.
