Just bought a new marlin 336 in .35 rem. Looking at options for optics and between an XS peep sight system or a vortex 4 power scope. Shots will be 150 yards at the extreme furthest.
    Thoughts?

That round will do more than 150 yards very easily, you never know when the opportunity to hunt elsewhere arises. Go with a scope.

I have receiver sights on many rifles I don't hunt with, but scopes on my hunting rifles. What are you going to use this rifle for. I don't think Vortex makes a 4X scope. I couldn't find one on their site. Look at the Leupold FX-II 4x33. That would be a good match.

Crossfire would be OK, and is a 1-4 scope. Personally, i'd bump up to the Viper HS in 2.5 - 10. Diamondback would be another option. Daylight in the swamp leaves early. The ability to gather all you can becomes important. You are talking 9.5" vs 12" though.

You are correct. I misspoke. I meant the leupold scope not vortex.

I will be hunting with this rifle. Ive always used scopes on my 30-30. Just weighing other options but it sounds like I should stick with a scope.

    I personally use a leupold vx1 2.5 to 7 power on my .35 rem.

It depends. My Marlin Model 336 in .35 Remington wears a 4X scope and has served me well. Where I hunt that power scope seems to be a good choice. All the best...

We have one too, same, 4X Browning.
As an aside, whenever you see a sale keep plenty of ammo on hand.
It gets harder to find once you're away from the big box civilization...let alone finding it in the type bullet and weight your scope is set up for.

Ivalso have the 336c 35cal. I've got a 4 power on it also. I bought it at Epps sporting goods in 68 or 69 for $89.95. You had a choice the model 94 in 30 30 cal or 32 or the Marlin

Sorry about that, I hit the wrong key, anyway As I said I had a choice of which gun I wanted I bought the marlin because the 35 has more juice. JimP is right, it's hard to find ammo and it is pricy. With reloads I have no worrys shooting 150 yds.

Except when you get to deer camp and realize that you left it on the kitchen table at home.Did that with my 45-70 years ago.Wife called me and asked why there was a box of bullets on the kitchen table.Had to make an 80 mile round trip just to find a box.

Good source over the years, remember the .22 shortages?
Someday Amazon . com and their drone delivery may save some hunter's opening morning.
    Overnight delivery to Tim-Buk-Tu.
