I'll be down there Saturday-Tues. Looks like rain/ice/snow. Seems like every year it rains or snows. I'll be in Vinton county on public with my wife and son, I was lucky enough to fill my tag a few weeks ago.
Ohio will probably get significiant snow next week. I didnt pay attention as to exactly when--Mon thru lat Tue, I believe. Check youtube Direct weather.
Ask them if I can rent a room, hotels and driving all over is expensive. Kinda joking but it really is a big expense.
Ended up seeing about 20 deer on the opener, 2 studs that I couldn’t get into range. Hoping they cooperate this afternoon or I’ll be back for the 2 day late gun season. Looking for a stud only right now, I passed a nice 3.5 year old 125-130” 9. The 2 studs were 140”+, one a 10pt the other an 11pt.
Gallipolis would probably be closest for a motel. Also across from the fair grounds on old 35 are couple we use when we go down to the 4/h fair, at the end of August. Used to be a couple mom and pop places on old 35 by the Bob Evans farm. On 35 just outta Jackson, there used to be a rather large Apple orchard, commercial, and family ran. I hunted there for years. My wife's family are farmers in that area, I have hunted from Deer Creek, thru Vinton, west to Crown City, Mercerville area. Also crossed the river and hunted Mason County. If you really feel brave, Cross the river into Point Pleasant, look up the motel that was featured in the movie, The mothman. Weird things are suppose to happen in the reporters room at night.
Sorry didn’t get on here before we left. Was lucky to tag this guy on the pike/ross county line. Only deer I seen but got him opening night and didn’t hunt to hard. My largest buck to date. Sent from my iPhone using Michigan Sportsman
