Hey everyone, I've been fishing for about 3-4 years, was furloughed, and ultimately let go last month which gave me lots of time to fish and kayak recently. Been trying to find places I can "catch and cook" and camp out while I do so without being poisoned lol... Also been looking at trout fishing to expand my horizons, although southeast Michigan isn't a great place to do that from what I know in the late summer. Typically a pike/bass fisherman and have been fishing a lot of the Huron and surrounding ponds in the area of Walled lake. Here's a photo of a 32-inch pike I caught recently at Kent Lake!

Hello and welcome to MSF. Island lake recreational area/Kensington Island lake rents rustic cabins. For camping Brighton recreational offers camping and several lakes in the area besides just Brighton Lake but using the campgrounds for home site. Sounds like where ever you go it's going to be a great time.

    Welcome!

I hope you have not been eating fish from the Huron. It is contaminated with PFAS.

For safer eating fish, head north of Midland. Lots of camping/fishing.

You can canoe/kayak all along the Ausable River, and it runs through the Huron/Manistee National Forest, so you can rustic camp all along it. There are rules for camping, but you could spot a vehicle, and kayak/camp for as many days as you want. Find a stretch of river you want to see, and get after it.

If you like fly fishing the North Branch of the AuSable is absolutely beautiful.
