Thanks. Gamekeeper. Here is a model 42 very similar to mine, posted on gun broker. I do not have the box. I have never posted a link before-hope I did it right.

I have no idea what a gun like this actually sells for. I just thought I would post on the site to get an idea. Thanks for the reply.

That would be a gun made in 1935.

If you take your 42 into a gun show multiple people will stop you and offer you a price they think it is worth. I did this with a 42 at Novi's gun show. The 42 I had was in ok shape but had a good size chunk missing out of the stock. I was offered anywhere from $600 to $900 for it and ended up selling it for $900. Very easy to do and you do not have to do any leg work people will come to you when they see it. if you are not happy with what is offered don't sell it but you will get an idea of what people are willing to pay for it.

Ok, thanks Raf. My 42 has no damage to the wood. I consider it to be in very nice condition.

Ribbed Winchesters are one of the most hotly discussed subjects on most of the Winchester sites that I belong to. Many believe that Winchester never produced a true Model 12, 42, 50, with a ribbed barrel, or raised solid. Follow link to one of the best discussions I have ever been read:.............https://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=250894

FWIW, this past weekend at the Novi gun show A man had two of them on his table, under 1200 on both. Not much attention being paid to them.

Gideon I have a 16 ga Model 12 with a solid rib. Cutts Compensator was added. I am 3rd ownwer. My father was #2. Original owner won a plain model at a banquet/ drawing. He wanted a fancier Model > traded in plain model for fansier model. Solid rib, checkered forearm. Cutts was added some time ago.
