I have a model 42 Winchester slide action .410 shotgun that belonged to my dad. It is in very nice condition. I believe he purchased it new many years before I was born-I am 65 years old. I never shoot it and it just sits in my gun safe year after year. I've kept it because of sentimental feelings, but I've been thinking that it should probably be in someone's Winchester collection. Just wondering if any collectors out there are needing this particular model for their collection?

42’s are very popular, and depending on the grade, bring great value.
I recommend you look on guns international or gun broker at closed auctions to get an approximate value for yours.
Then if you still want to sell, list it.

    Again, they are very popular.

Don't know what more I could tell u about the gun-is there anything in particular u would like to know about it? I will get it out of my safe and look for any characteristics u may be interested in.

Does this model 42 have a Cutts compensator on it?

So, what did your looking on guns international show you?

Did you find an ad for a gun that looks just like yours?
Condition plays a roll in value

For Winchester guys, the box carries huge value as well

I looked on international guns-only found 2. There was one that looked like mine, except it had a vent rib barrel, which mine does not have. The price on it was just a little under $2500.00. I tried to join the gun broker site so I could access gun prices, but the site would not accept any username I tried, and that was about 30 different names, I finally gave up.

Does it have a rib - solid or ventilated ? How is it choked ? If you don't want to sell it yourself try Jaqua's Fine Guns in Findlay, OH. They'll sell it for you on consignment or buy it from you outright. They'll also tell you what they'll sell it for in either case and what your "take" will be - up front. Hope this helps. Condition is EVERYTHING as in ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING when pricing shotguns like yours. And remember often a seller's 95% is a buyer's 85%.

If he looked on gunbroker we would have seen 42’s listed for as much as 10k

    There were hundreds of listings

    Gunsinternational as well
    GunsAmerica too

    I
got the gun out this morning and got this information off it: .410 3 inch Mod. I measured the barrel length 26 in. On the front bottom of the receiver is the number 17021.

    Got the box?
You can easily get a value off auction sites.
I don’t want it, but if you are parting with a family heirloom, I don’t want you to get taken either.
Post a link to one off a website that looks just like yours. I’ll help you determine an honest value.
Then I’ll show you a couple places to sell it.
You’ll have to do a Ffl to Ffl transfer, so don’t forget that.
And most anyone will want to see some decent close up pictures.
Honesty gets the best value out of selling guns.
