I agree with that. I don't trust the numbers at all so I try and base my decisions on what I personally see. We had a 58 year old man in seemingly fine health install our phone drops at one of our offices in Feb, he was dead by end of March due to COVID. Our technology director's father died from COVID. My assistant had a confirmed case in March and when we left lock down, she was unable to return to work for another 3-4 weeks. There was a fear in her eyes that was clearly discernible once she was able to return. She said she wouldn't wish it on her enemies. She is mid 60's and has a pre-existing condition. We also had 5 other employees test positive, most of them with mild symptoms. I work in Wayne Co., I don't think many people in other parts of the state have had the same exposure to actual confirmed cases.

I don't know one person who has died from the flu. I know 2 that have died from Covid.

So if you don't trust the data, why would you take the least cautionary path available, and just cry out conspiracy instead? It is just mind boggling to me how people are either "anti-covid its all a hoax, you people are sheep!" when even they admit to not knowing the data....

They've also been very right, more often than not.

...but that is irrelevant, because there is no situation where SOME "public policy" isn't being set.

As Neil Peart once said - "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice". Doing something is public policy. Choosing not to do anything is ALSO public policy.

So given the reality that we ARE going to inevitably implement public policy - we're just quibbling over the details of WHAT public policy... and I'll argue that even given all the issues with science, there is no other method for choosing public policy which is better.

"I tell them the old joke about the man who asks a girl if she will sleep with him for a million dollars. Of course, she says yes. He then offers her two dollars and she slaps his face, saying, ‘What do you think I am?’ He answers, ‘I know what you are. We are just haggling over the price.’"

All numbers, in all areas, are based on incomplete information.

We should have let it fester before the shutdown is what I meant.

And there are just as many who should own a business and then have their livelihood put at risk because an out of control government decides to shut them down. Shut down based on a simple minded concept of "X" number of cases.

How many would change their minds about masks and other such issues if their retirement was put at risk by a bunch of deniers?

Being off by a factor of 10 would be getting off easy. India is closing in on 100k cases per day from testing, but estimates are that they are catching only 1% of cases. If that’s true, that’s 10 million new cases PER DAY. Less than half of any deaths there are even attributed to a cause.

My friend Greg, in Bay City, died two weeks ago from it.
I bet there are a good number of people here that knew him. It's a well known company.

The chain of events started in Standish 4 months ago. Working it's way through the company, and finally catching, and killing, him.

Could have used more mask wearing and hand sanitizing among his co workers.

But hey, it's all a hoax, designed to control people.

    Vigilance saves lives.

A surgical mask filters to 30 microns. A covid molecule measures .03 microns.

    You do the math.
