I bet all elk harvested are tested. Per the DNR.

The cow elk I killed in 2016 was tested bTB and CWD. It was mandatory that we turned in the elk head we killed.

Surprised that they were testing for CWD in '02. I would have guessed 8-10 years later.

There is many Things Required If you take an Elk you have to Flag the Spot where the Gut Pile is, having it checked as well as turning in the Head once Caped for a Shoulder Mount... Among other things. A Friend Took a Cow and was Totally Surprised besides taking the Class Prior to Your Hunt all the Things they Require a Hunter To Do! Nothing close / like Deer Hunting is...

Wish they would put that much time and effort into bringing upland game bird hunting back into the state .Something countless more could benefit from .Shame .

My guess the number of elk tested it well over 2,000 by now.

I don't recall seeing this chart before. Interesting to see how many tests were done after the Kent Co. deer pen positive in '08. I don't know how many of those tests were done in the Kent/Montcalm area where so many of our positives are now found, but I'm guessing a lot.
In that 4 year period nearly 12,000 tests and zero positives. Over 9,000 in '08 when hunters were more inclined to drop off a head.
    Thanks for posting.

I’ve posted it several times over the year. It was part of the power point presentation at the last Deer Forum, 5 year management plan, in Roscommon. That was the same meeting where Russ Mason stated it was only a matter of when Michigan gets CWD not if. The fat TC shoe salesman promptly got that thread shut down because it didn’t align with his agenda.

It was also shown in the cwd symposium in meridian twp back in 2015. Chad Stewart had it in his presentation.
