Never saw a pothead with dope that did not have a bottle of MD 20-20 somewhere in the vehicle along with assorted other alcohol.

Does this mean that you don't believe that 50's were used in the Detroit riots of 1968?

    Umm, huh?
49-years in the rear-view mirror --- does it matter if they did?
    Or they didn't?
Or that I believe they did or didn't?
    Or who cares?

Besides, I thought "Twin 50's" was a porn name.

I don't recall the DARE Program promoting alcohol as a replacement for drug use.
I do believe operating a vehicle under the influence of anything that affects your perception, reaction time, hand /eye coordination etc, etc, etc , is not a positive thing.....whether it be alcohol, pot, or any other substance....
But as a side note.... I'm starting to fear idiots who text while driving as much as I do someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol....I've had a few near misses with other vehicles where I could clearly see the moron was texting, completely oblivious to what was going on around them....I'd just about take my chances with a drunk or a stoner as I would with someone texting while driving.... they are all idiots in my book, and endangering everyone one on the road, regardless of what is affecting their judgment and driving.

While I agree with the general tone of your post, let me be clear. Driving impaired on any drug is bad. The DARE program had the effect of turning smokers into weekend drunks. None of the kids I went to school with crashed their cars after smoking down. The kids that drank did it almost regularly. The cell phone has people of all ages weaving, erratic speeds, and crashing. The high-ons did not start fights either. I was not a fan of the DARE program, Operation Hemp, or the surveillance choppers. Waste of taxpayer money.

That's because the potheads you saw liked alcohol too. It shouldn't be news to you that many pot smokers did not / do not drink. The non-drinkers tend to fly under the radar. Very few are trouble makers. It's the fire water effects that catch police attention. And me likely the fire water. Just telling it like it is.

I believe that this could apply to the previous one that you were commenting on. As far as "Twin 50's" being a porn name I cannot comment as I have no idea on any porn names. I actually thought you were talking about 50 caliber machine guns just so there is no hidden message that you might think I am sending.

Actually it would be news to me that they do not drink. It is not a far stretch to think that someone who abuses their body with alcohol would also try weed and vise versa. I would not say that the non-drinkers flew under the radar. I am not saying that they were trouble makers but the drug use had a tendency to get them into trouble. The fire water effects were not necessarily the reason they gained attention. People that drive crappy cars that are not taken care of indicate a person that does not take care of other things like warrants which turned out to be true. Now I always had the feeling that most of them would rather spend their money on the dope than take care of other necessary items.

    I appreciate your response.
I disagree with your statement that seems to say that a kid would automatically be turned into someone who consumed alcohol just because he or she was encouraged not to use drugs......I don't think that's the case to begin with and I also disagree with it for the following reason..... even if it was true that a person would have started using or abusing alcohol as a substitute for drugs, it sounds like it relieves them from personal responsibility for their choices or actions.... they could make the choice to imbibe in anything.... or make the choice to do their drinking and pot use at home.... but to say that because someone was encouraged to use alcohol because they were discouraged to use drugs just isn't true..... it's all a choice and a matter of personal responsibility.

    Oh yes.
    Yes, indeed.
I did think you were sending a hidden message.
Glad you exonerated yourself on that.

Good old DARE... the anti-drug program that studies show at a minimum did nothing, and quite possibly INCREASED drug use.

Kind of like Partnership for a Drug-Free America - the folks that made the "This is your brain on drugs..." PSAs - who received piles of their funding from alcohol and tobacco companies.

Nah... it appears more likely that it turned non-stoners into stoners.
