Finally hit some specks again. Man they can be tough this time of year, one school packed tight in 15 feet of water 6-10 feet down. no visible vegetation around. Maybe they were on a school of minnows. White twister with a pink head. Crappies.jpg

I am actually excited for winter to come. Hopefully there is good ice this year. Thinking I will go on a crappie binge, target nothing but crappies. I love it when the vexilar lights up with about 8 big red marks suspended in 20ft. It's exciting when they come in like that.

After trying to jig for salmon on muskegon lake last week and coming up empty. I thought I better get back to the fishing I'm half way descent at. Crappie. Started out fishing the deeper weed edges with one here and there. But not much to show. Finally found them schooled up in deeper water. It didn't take long and my limit was filled. 1/32 ounce jig did the trick again. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

A call to all my peeps. Rainy today so I am doing lots of thinking...I feel the fall pattern will kick in sooner than later. 10 day forecast calls for many nights in the 40's. that being said what are you favorite fall patterns? Reservoirs or natural lakes.. shallow or deep.. weeds, wood or open water? Plastics or minnows? Numbers or size?
I have had best luck on reservoirs fishing Minnows over deep wood.

Got a few crappies and some nice gills. I only ever fished crappies through the ice so I am now learning.

Good question!! I think the fish will feed on the late summer/early fall zooplankton that rises up to the top early and late in the day but after that I don't know?
