When I said I was trolling, I should have said drifting. I had a small jighead with a gulp minnow, and a splitshot. The main thing I was doing was watching the fish finder for pods of fish, which I eventually found.

Funny... just 2 1/2 weeks ago I was catching and marking big gills suspended in 40-50 feet of water. All fish were just above the thermocline Tonight I marked NO fish (second time in a week) Thermocline is still there but no fish. I tried all over. Deep was void of fish and shallows had tons of dinks. Finally found some 8 to 9 inches in 17 feet of water in an inside turn of a weed line. Best tactic was casting small pieces of warms and gulp and reeling slowly in. I wonder if the cold weather now either created a new food source in that area and killed off the zooplankton in the deep water?

0908172019a.jpg Took some advice from here and fished a little deeper. 12 feet near the bottom with a twister tail. When the paddle tail doesn't work I go to the twister. Some times I think that little extra motion does the trick.

My fishing buddy and I found them all last week in 20-25 feet of water suspended at 8-12 feet. We used green nightcrawlers under a sliding bobber.

A buddy and I went out this afternoon/eve took home 38 all over deep water, did'nt mark many shallower than 24'. after we got what we figured was enought we tried 2 different methods, 1 was I made some "Dilly" harnesses, those were effective on bottom bouncers, then we caught them on Strike King "itsy"something or other crankbaits on tx-6 boards, after catching a few we just caught them trolling rod in hand, what a fun day!!!!

Gills are going strong. Found 20 of these in 21 fow. 64th. oz jig tipped with a wax worm. Lights out. A few crappie mixed in as well. Excellent eaters. Able to be a tad selective ... based on how well they are biting. Fall is cranking up. Cropido aka Ben Out !!! :coolgleam Quality Gills Fall.jpg

There are so many good things about fishing...the planing...the fishing...the time on the water...the challenge...the bonding.....the catching......the scenery.....the learning each time out...and the EATING! What a great sport we have!
