Fished Friday on a pleasant, sunny day. My starter hole gave up nothing, so I mostly relaxed and played around with some late season salars.

There was an obvious later trickle of them, as the fish I landed were beautiful and clean. I hooked 5, landed 4. I had some crazy, cool instances with a couple of them.

Spawnbags and bobbers worked per usual for me. I did land 1 little chrome bullet. All fish were put back into the river. I’ll be in full steelhead mode from this point on. Thankful for this unique opportunity we have on this river!

Once again, awesome pics. Extremely envious of the fishery you have up there.

We fished whirl pool, foot and in oscoda today. Not ****. Seen 1 caught. I use 10 pound floro for my leader and just 3 foot of lead. Is that to high of pounds or not long enough? Used pink beads and orange sacks.

It is still winter there, right? Lots of snow, ice fishing on lakes, snowmobilers? I usually use 8# flouro for leader, but 8 or 10# Maxima mainline. There weren't a lot of Steelhead that came in during the Fall. There might not be many in the river yet. The Ausable used to get a late Spring run of fish.

Tailouts of deeper holes, and woody structure hold fish at this time of year.

Its picked up a little in recent weeks, but continues to be a slow grind for steelhead. There are still a lot of salmon in the river to fall back on.

The steelhead I've caught, and saw caught, have been solid fish that fought well.
