Giving the little streams a last chance before they close , caught 6 and kept 3 for dinner.
The water is low and crystal clear ...the best part is nobody is around , very quite up
here this time of year. :):):) IMG_20200922_141135.jpg

It was nice to finally catch you on the stream today Walt.

I'm glad I stopped and said hello and introduced myself.

Give that spinner I gave you a try. It's worked well for me this year.

Good luck to everyone who makes time for the Brookies while we still have a few days of the season left to enjoy the type 1 streams before they close.

That's a fish on my bucket list for next year in the UP. I've never caught one or eaten one.

about 20 yrs ago my wife and I (not married at the time) camped at Mill Creek on the straits for Memorial Day weekend and drove up by Seney to try the Fox River for brookies. Heard stories of easy 10"+ brookies. Where we chose to go was extremely thick...both with cover and mosquitos. I managed to get a few with one being 9"....she couldn't hold out long enough to get on any fish. Was nice but needed longer time to scout for easier access.

Great job. I had my last date with brookies this past weekend. I saw no other fishermen and the water was the clearest I've ever seen.

What do you guys usually use to get brookies? I always used Panther Martin's for browns and rainbows.

I was using panfish jigs, 1/16 oz. Black jig head with a bubblegum paddle tail grub.

Do you cast upstream and reel in or let it float down?

I let it drift through the wood and the holes then retrieve.

The 'closer' is one of my favorites trips of the year. All the crowds are chasing decaying coho and kings in all our NW local rivers. We hope to have camp set by saturday afternoon, staying until Tuesday night. Normally just my son and I, but we have his uncle along this year as well. Weather looks ideal. Clouds, rain and colder = aggressive fall trout. Cheers to all that are out for trout!
