Last year I built an 8wt, 13' 3" fast action centerpin rod- went all in with bi-colored cork, inlaid wood reelseat and extra high guides. Couldn't resist trying to see how I could do on Kings with this rod and a centerpin reel. Figured if I could land Kings, then steelhead would be no problem. Hit the river on a hot fish day- beached 7 fish, kept none. Four of those 7 were beached with the centerpin rig- all good size fish (12-15 #). Gotta love those Kings- we don't need no stinking drag!!
