Was trying to write state creel guy, dam spell check lol.
Catching might be slow because of these fronts rolling through.

Anyone able to give an update on the ice out in deep water? Wondering if the snow and wind Sunday did anything to it. Would like to know how the ice is before making the long drive up there this weekend.

    Thanks

Looks like a chunk blew out but still good ice from Pequaming back down to the head of the bay.

My wife and I were out on the bay again this afternoon. It was stormy in the morning with about 4-6 inches of snow but it cleared up beautifully this afternoon. The only thing was high winds but still great to be out there. We caught 9 lakers, 8 legal. There is still a couple feet of clear ice out from Whirl-I-Gig road.

My report from Wednesday needs to be updated. We went to fish yesterday but didn't dare go out on the ice. The strong winds were pushing large waves from Superior into the bay and the ice out from the west side of the bay by Assinins was moving up and down with them. I did not see that it was happening on the Whirl-I-Gig side but it doesn't take long for all the ice to break up with those waves.

Are you guys using the same baits in 100' as 200' and are you off bottom in both depths?

I can't speak for the guys fishing shallower but we use 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz jigs with either half a smelt or cut sucker out there at 250'. I do use the same thing when I fish shallower but you would need to hear from somebody else for what they use.
