Will this ice storm rival the one from 1976?
Who knows because I wasn't here then.
But I'm as prepared as I can be. Vehicles are all gassed up, generator tested and ready to go, plenty of fuel, food, and water stored up, and cash on hand.
Perhaps a few days where I can spend prepping all my summer fishing tackle in peace and quiet.
Went 9 days without power with 2 small children .We had to evacuate our house because of oak trees hanging over our roof .Many trees broke off but our house was spared .Scary sitting in your house with trees crashing all around .
I was in CA. for that one but, scanned a few pics from the photo album from the New Year's Day one in '85
The December '13 was a bad one too.....
.....Going to tie up some crawler harnesses this week-end. Looks pretty bad further north of me.
8:10am and the chunky stuff has arrived in Rodney. Let the adventure begin!
Cancelled a trip down to Saginaw because of the Feb weather in April. Didnt want to take a luge ride down I-75
Next week looks much better. BE SAFE!
I was renting a house on Lake Lansing for that one. It dropped a huge tree on our house and we had to move out. Just for giggles, landlord was Gail Palmer. Google her if you're not familiar with her work.
Turned to sleet here in the Cedar swamp at 9:00AM.
We had a dandy in about 2004. Lost power for about 2.5 days. Temp went from 35 to 0 in 12 hours. I was chopping holes in the pond to lug 5 gallon buckets of water to the horse trough 50 yards away in the pasture. Trough would freeze within an hour or so. Only had a 3000 watt generator that wouldn't run my furnace.
Needless to say, I installed a 16 Kw Generac that spring/summer.
That '13 one was a pretty good one. I remember looking out across the lake I lived on seeing flashes from transformers blowing all across the horizon. We lived in a pretty wooded area and it sounded like the world was falling apart with all the trees and branches coming down crashing through other ice covered trees.
Now I live in Lake Ann where we are at about 8" of snow and climbing. Just a little north at my work in Suttons Bay we have around 16" and climbing.
My best mushroom grounds are west of you near Honor ...Guess they will be quite a ways out this year .
Got a feeling it is not if but when we will loose power with this storm. The snows is really adding up already and the winds are ripping. Supposedly we haven’t even seen the worse yet.
I remember most of them, thankfully the damage near me wasn't terribly catastrophic.
Saw "storm" in the thread title and was hoping for pics. Saw some old ones thanks to clDJ. I had forgotten about Ginger Lynn, so that was nice for reminiscing too.
hey B.B., Is that report from TC or Glennie? I cancelled a run up to my cabin in Oscoda, was just looking for a report around there
It was looking promising in March but the last two weeks have been brutal. 15" last week along with some single digit nights. Guys were still ice fishing and snowmobiling out on Long Lake last week.
