Got it today. Now by the weekend it will be bearable to get out to use it.
I'll be out tomorrow on a private lake getting the new unit wet! Can't wait.
By the way that is quite the assembly process!
Holy crap batman what an awesome unit!! Only downside is at full brightness it really drains the battery. Had it die on me sunday after a total of about 8 hours of use. Not horrible but not great either. But the unit itself is amazing.
You probably have a 7ah rated battery. Get a 12ah battery for almost double time of use. Available at good prices on Amazon (2 for $50 or less)
I'll check that out thanks!
I bought the Helix 5 Ice, and I have been impressed with the battery life so far. I turn the brightness down to 6 or 7, which seems to help a lot. Made two trips for a total of about 9 hours and had over 50% battery left. So far I've preferred the split screen view.
Chart mode is 100x better than flasher mode. Once you fish with a graph you will wonder why you didn't make the switch years ago. I started out with a lx3, upgraded to a x67c I didn't like it at all at first.. After a few trips I was sold. Upgraded to a Helix 5 last season and love it!
Too many people stare at the screen more than their line or bobber. I'll never shut it off, once I'm over fish I watch my line. Key word is fish finder. It's not intended as a strike indicator. If that's what works for people that's fine. I always tell guys once they have a fish showing interest don't get fixated on your screen, pay attention to your presentation and your line/bobber. You will put way more fish on the ice
Yea I used both over the weekend. The chart is definitely the way to go
Love the chart. Use the fish alarm, you don't even need to look at the screen. LOL.
New models have a fish whistle, too.
Here fishy fishy fishy....
In high school a couple buddies and I ventured out on the ice. Old timer says "Hey, y'all ever use a fish call before?!" we reply "fish call, no..". He says "c'mon over, check this thing out, it's realllllllll old. They don't make em no more". He pulls a film canister out of his pocket, pops the top. Looks at it, shakes it a little and says "Y'all ready?!", us "Yeah.." he leans forward towards a hole, holding the film canister flares his arms out, brings the canister towards his mouth while taking a deep breath then screams "HEYYYYYYY FISHHHHH!" Then proceeds to laugh his ass off. We all got a kick out of it. Lol
LOLOL love it. Here I thought it was something like the fish alarm. Nope. Hahahhaa
