The ice is about as safe as Hubbard gets. Watch close along the creeks, there are big soft spots. I have not heard any outstanding reports but pretty much plan on hitting the ice on Saturday with a small group.

Maybe you wouldn't mind sharing a little info on techniques for fishing Hubbard? How far off bottom are guys running tip ups, any depths better than others etc. Got a couple last week fishing 6ft off bottom with slip bobbers

4-6ft is where I find the thermocline usually.

We had 4" of water on top of 16" of clear solid ice. It was my first time ice fishing with a good walleye chop. The fish were lock jawed too. Our group had tip-up strung from 20 fow to 49 fow and all we got were a couple wind flags. We fished in a larger group off of the Hardwoods and didn't see anyone else running for flags either. Never heard the results of the big tourney but the C.O. said he had only seen 12 perch by 2:00 in the afternoon.
Bottom line: Safe as can be expected ice and very picky fish. When the water on top freezes, we'll need the extensions on the augers.

We did well 8 yesterday , 0 today , very tough bite today, we had a guide yesterday and he was thrilled with the amount of fish we caught , apparently thats a great day on Hubbard , and i can believe it, we fished for 8hrs today and never even marked fish , or seen any on camera , so good luck if you fish it , they dont call it the lake with no fish for nothing lol!!
