I fished Walleyes with cranks last Spring for the first time. I guess I never thought about it, but I caught a LOT more fish on the lines with Planer Boards, than I did with the "down" rods that just run straight behind the boat. I didn't have electronics, and just set my lines back at different distances, then adjusted to whatever the fish seemed to want. Sometimes they just wanted Fruit Dot Bandits, however I dragged them.

I found that, if I took the motor out of gear, let the boat slow down to a stop (I sometimes used reverse to get the stop quicker), then engage the kicker, and shoot up to 2+ mph, I got bit a LOT. Lots of doubles doing this, too. I think it triggers a predator/prey response, but haven't actually asked any Walleyes. lol. But it works.

That is correct. If you do 30,50, 70 on one side, do 40, 60 80 on the other. covers more of the water column and you can hone the depth when the fish start biting.

And don’t let him kid you, you will also need a special mate carrier that holds 100 body baits! Hahahahaha... that’s no joke!

Franks Great Outdoors have Deep Down Husky Jerks for 4.29. Bass Pro Shops will price match if you are at the store.

If you are up for a drive, both Franks and Northwoods in Pinconning have great deals on trolling gear.

For now, I would just go with what you have, but the boards would help. These goodies will also help:
    1. one more line counter combo
    2. 2 boards for each side
    3. extra lures

Could always stop in at Domkas off Laplaisance exit on 75 or hit up Bottom Line off West Jefferson in front of Lake Erie Metro park, both have boards and good selection of Bandits or DDHJ’S and other body baits......

Yes, this, for sure. I do the same with harnesses, however, they fall instead of rise. Same effect though. We usually get the bites when we re-engage the motor and the baits start to rise again. To the fish it looks like something trying to escape.
